Richard J. Fox, MD, FACS, has been a Board-Certified General Surgeon in private practice in Boulder, Colorado, since 2002. He started Boulder Vein Center in 2007 and provides general surgical care, including all types of gastrointestinal surgery (both benign and malignant), hernia repairs, endocrine surgery, and breast disease surgery. He is also interested in thoracic and vascular procedures, including state-of-the-art treatment for varicose veins. Dr. Fox favors advanced minimally invasive approaches to all his surgeries when possible.

He has been recognized by the Patients’ Choice Award, 5280 Top Doctors, America’s Most Compassionate Doctors, and US News and World Report Top Doctors. Dr. Fox received his board certification from the American Board of Surgery in 2002 and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Fox is also a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Hernia Society, Colorado Medical Society, and Boulder County Medical Society. He previously served as the Trauma Director for Boulder Community Hospital.

Dr. Fox earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with honors from Indiana University in 1993. He returned to the Midwest to pursue a Master of Sciences in Applied Physiology and Pathology and his MD degree at the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago. While there, he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Dr. Fox completed his Surgery internship and residency in General Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois, in 2002. His specialty certifications include:
